How to Format List Items in WordPress

WordPress is great because you don't have to know any HTML or other code in order to create web pages and blog posts. However, in certain instances it can be helpful to understand a bit about the logic behind HTML in order to maximize the your bang for your WordPress-buck.

Lists in HTML and WordPress

HTML is a markup language, which means that it's a language that describes and organized content.  So while there's no harm in writing a list in WordPress, and adding numbers or bullet-points as you would in Word, it's a better approach to use HTML to organize the list.  Fortunately, with WordPress, formatting a list is as easy as pressing a button (see the buttons in the image below).

Good luck with your lists!
(Bonus Note: The above concept has to do with the big picture of Web Standards. If you are interested in the subject, the book Web Standards: Mastering HTML5, CSS3, and XML by Leslie F. Sikos is a great reference).
